IPS rejig
Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday effected a minor rejig among IPS officers. Arun Bothra has been appointed as the IG of economic offences wing, while Asheet Kumar Panigrahi would be the new IG of the crime branch. Similarly Ghanshyam Upadhyay has been appointed as the new DIG of eastern range.
Statue strike
Bhubaneswar: A 12-hour strike was observed at Gunupur town in Rayagada district following defacement of the statue of Swami Vivekananda. A six-feet bronze statute, installed on the Gunupur autonomous college campus, was found defaced on Thursday. Later, local people lodged a complaint. As police failed to arrest the culprits, the strike was observed on Tuesday.
Nalco move
Bhubaneswar: Nalco agreed to upgrade the existing Gandhi memorial park on Puri beach with landscaping, mass plantation, musical fountains and lighting. “A consultant shall be appointed in a month and the work shall be finished in one year,” said Nalco CMD T.K. Chand.
Skin seized
Rayagada: Forest officials of Muniguda range seized an 8-ft-long leopard skin from a sack kept in a cave near Nundruguda village.
