Jawan held

Bhubaneswar: A special squad of the state excise department arrested a BSF jawan and three others for allegedly smuggling  foreign liquor to Ganjam district from Bhubaneswar railway station on Sunday. The van, in which the foreign liquor was being smuggled, has been seized. The driver and two other persons in fake khaki uniforms apart from the BSF jawan, identified as G. Behera, have been arrested.

Couple dead

Balasore: A couple died on the spot after sustaining severe injuries as their SUV met with an accident near Soro. Their son is undergoing treatment at Soro community health centre. The deceased have been identified as Kaushik Ghosh, 42, and Sauna Ghosh, 35. They were on their way to Puri from Calcutta.  

Body found

Paradip: The body of a 64-year-old man was retrieved on Sunday from a pond in Narasinghapur village under Derabish police station. The deceased was identified as Rabindra Sethy, a vegetable vendor. 

Road rage 

Rourkela: A mother and her daughter died at the spot when a speeding dumper hit their scooter at Sabdega on the city outskirts on Sunday afternoon. The dumper was coming from the opposite direction when the mishap took place. The dumper ran over the two-wheeler. 

Injured

Sambalpur: A 28-years-old man, Debashis Munda of Tileimal in Rengali block sustained severe injuries after his bike was hit by a tractor at Bhalupali Chhak near Ainthapali police station on Sunday morning. The accident also sparked tension in the area as irate people blocked the road for sometime demanding immediate compensation for the victim.

Drain work 

Berhampur: The renovation of Bahana Nala, one of the major drains flowing on the outskirts of the city, has started. The estimated cost of the renovation project is Rs 22.15 crore and the authorities intend to complete the work in three years time.
