Autopsy report 

Bhubaneswar: Suman Sharma, who died on September 26 during a demonstration by Utkal University students protesting against the cancellation of students' union polls, died of brain haemorrhage and excessive internal bleeding, her post-mortem report revealed on Saturday. 

MoU inked

Bhubaneswar: The state government on Saturday signed an MoU with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). The agreement will see the government collaborate with IRRI on rice and rice-based cropping system research and development. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathy were present during the signing of the MoU.

Engineer

Rourkela: Odia engineer Prabhas Samal, who was abducted by the militant outfit ISIS in Libya but later managed to escape, reached the city on Saturday. He met with his mother and other members of his family.

Fraud cuffs

Bhadrak: Police arrested seven persons, including a woman, in connection with land fraud. These accused were caught trying to sell a piece of land using forged documents to a company in Chandbali block. They had received over Rs 7.5 lakh in advance for the deal, said police.

Trucks seized

Balasore: Three sand-laden trucks were seized by the Basta tehsildar after they were found transporting sand from the Subarnarekha river illegally and without any paperwork. 

Agitation warning 

Bhubaneswar: The Nikhila Odisha Anganwadi Karmi Mahasangha, a body of anganwadi workers, has warned to intensify their agitation against the Centre. They are disappointed with the reduction in the budget of Integrated Child Development Scheme, which, they allege, will affect both the health of the mother and the child.

Donation boxes

Sambalpur: The donation boxes at the Samaleswari temple were opened on Saturday in presence of its members, including the temple trust board president Surendra Mohanty. An amount of Rs 1.4 lakh was collected from them. The donation boxes of the temple were last opened on September 1.  

College polls

Bhubaneswar: The Odagaon College authorities in Nayagarh district on Saturday cancelled the students’ union elections. Sensing trouble, the authorities declared the college closed sine die. They apprehended the polls would create law and order problem in the college. 

Man killed

Puri: A 30 -year-old man was chased and later hacked to death by unidentified assailants at Uttarakana under Sadar police station in Puri district on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Merudahar Pradhan. A police source said past 
rivalry was likely to be the reason behind the killing of Pradhan.
