Harass slur

Balasore: Students of the Rural Institute of Higher Studies in Bhogarai here on Sunday staged a demonstration in front of the local police  station  to demand action against a teacher, who allegedly misbehaved with a Plus Three first year science student. The girl alleged that the teacher behaved inappropriately with her when she went to him for tuitions in January. Police have started a probe after registering a sexual harassment case. 

Maoist

Malkangiri: A Maoist leader who had a cash award of Rs 1 lakh on his head surrendered before Malkangiri police on Sunday. Police said Waga Kawasi alias Raju, who worked as Area Committee Member of the banned CPI (Maoist) had eight murder cases pending against him.

Cuffs on 10

Bhubaneswar: Police on Sunday arrested 10 more persons, including the parents of a 17-year-old girl who was beaten to death by her two cousins at Bijapalli village within Rengali police limits in Jharsuguda district on Thursday. The deceased, Sanjukta Jayapuria, was allegedly beaten to death by Santoshini, 23, and Soudamini, 22, who claimed to have been possessed by Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. The cops also arrested a woman, Suchitra Dhurua, on charges of baptising people with Shiv dikhya.

Acid attack

Baripada: A newly-elected panchayat samiti member, identified as  Hadibandhu Nayak of Saraskana Jharpokharia gram panchayat, suffered injuries after an acid attack on him on Sunday.
