Bhubaneswar, June 8: The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) has decided to refund fees deposited by students for its special recruitment drive in 2014.

The students can share their personal and bank details on the BPUT website and the registration fee will be refunded to their respective accounts.

As many as 50,000 students had registered for the mega drive and had paid a registration fee of Rs 100 each.

The recruitment drive was postponed indefinitely due to "unavailability of recruiters".

"The state government had formed a core committee to visit different industry houses and mobilise them to participate in the drive. However, nothing bore fruits. The department had also tried to outsource the drive, but could not find proper partners," a senior BPUT official said.

A section of students, however, are disappointed after BPUT decided to return money to job seekers. They have accused the BPUT of "cheating" them.

Those who have graduated with B.Tech, M.Tech, B.Pharma, M.Pharm, MCA & MBA degrees since had registered.

Following the development, BPUT students' protection council president Biplab Prakash Mohanty said the association would go to the court against the notification.

"If they had to cancel the job drive, what were they doing for the past two years? What have they done with the interest money? The news has crushed the hopes of so many students. We demand that the notification be revoked and the department should try to provide us employment," said Mohanty.

Technical education minister Sanjay Das Burma had earlier clarified that there was no way the money could be misused as a separate account was created for the purpose of recruitment drive.
