Bhubaneswar, April 18: Despite stiff opposition from various quarters, students of the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) are out with yet another edition of the Orissa Professional College Ranking –2011.
Into its third year now, the rankings by the BPUT students portal has been gaining popularity among the aspiring students spoilt for choice among the crowd of technical institutes.
It is a bias free online rating process conduced by the students of Biju Patnaik University of Technology. Judging criteria includes parameters of industry exposure, learning and faculty, placement, and extra curricular activities.
Besides online voting, the ratings also include a college- wise inspection by a team that have experts from the industry and academics.
The first phase of ratings released this year has the International Institute of Information Technology Bhubaneswar topping the list as the best business tech college in the state. It is followed by the College of Engineering and Technology Bhubaneswar and the National Institute of Science and technology, Berhampur.
The college of pharmaceutical science, Mohuda, topped the list as the best B pharmacy college in the state while the College of engineering and Technology Bhubaneswar topped the list as the best B Arch. College. The Ranjita Institute of Hotel Management and Technology, Bhubaneswar, topped the list as the best hotel management college in the state while the Centre for IT Education topped the list as the best MBA college. CET Bhubaneswar topped the list as the best MCA college in the state.
“Students are the best judges of their own college. This is why we took up the initiative of college ratings,” said Srisendu Panda of the team.
The ranking team provides an equal opportunity to all colleges to represent by submitting the initial questionnaire. The team also visits the colleges to get the ground level data,” said added. While the first phase is complete, students can continue rating their college for the next three phases starting from today, the students informed.
As per the voting criteria, a registered student of this website can vote for his or her own college only once. It is mandatory for students to have their university registration number.
“We have kept the procedure very strict to avoid malpractice. Votes of fake registration are not taken into account.
“Also, a student is allowed to open a single account in the website. More than one account is not permitted to avoid duplications,” said Panda.
