Boost to health care

There is good news for those who visit government health-care facilities. Finance minister Sashi Bhusan Behera has proposed a budgetary allocation of Rs 6,160 crore for the health sector.

Bhubaneswar: There is good news for those who visit government health-care facilities. Finance minister Sashi Bhusan Behera has proposed a budgetary allocation of Rs 6,160 crore for the health sector.

"Private participation in health care in 11 backward districts will be promoted through health care investment promotion policy," said the Finance minister.

"The state has allocated Rs 50 crore to ensure menstrual hygiene among the adolescent girls and women," he said.

Odia conclave

The BJD government, which has taken up the cause of Odia language in a big way, has also made budgetary provisions to promote the language.

A world conference on Odia language will be held once every five years beginning next year. The state will also set up the Odia Language Commission next year for spread and preservation of Odia language.

It proposes to celebrate the birthday of famous Odia poet Aitbadi Jagannath Das and plans to set up an Odia Virtual Academy that will digitalise Odia literature and books and make them available online.

CM reaches out

The Ama Gaon Ama Bikash programme envisages to establishment direct connect between the highest level of the administration with the people and enhance participation of people and panchayati raj members in development activities.

Under this programme, the chief minister will directly interact with the people and people's representatives at village and panchayat levels through video-conferencing and sanction funds ranging between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 10 lakh for need based projects.

The budget has allocated Rs 1,250 crore for this programme.
