Bhubaneswar, July 25: The BJP today again raised the illegal allotment of houses and plots to a BJD leader and unauthorised construction of an apartment by a minister.

Angry BJP members stormed the Well, demanding a statement from chief minister Naveen Patnaik. The issue of allotment of plots and houses was published in The Telegraph on Wednesday. And today was the third day when the members again took up the matter.

As the BJP members shouted slogans, Speaker Niranjan Pujari adjourned the House for 30 minutes after the Question Hour. The Speaker said the issue had been raised on Wednesday and according to the rules, it could not be raised again.

Opposition Congress and the BJP have been raising the issue since the past three days following publication of a report titled “Houses two many for comfort” in The Telegraph in its Wednesday edition. The report enclosed a list of 29 persons and their spouses, who have been allotted more than one house or plot.

Today, BJP member Rabi Narayan Naik told reporters outside the Assembly that he wanted to reiterate the points raised by their legislature party leader Basanta Kumar Panda yesterday. However, the Speaker did not allow him.

Naik said housing and urban development minister Pushpendra Singh Deo had informed the Assembly last month that a case had been pending against food supplies and consumer welfare minister Sanjay Kumar Das Burma for unauthorised construction of an apartment. Again, former minister and Rajya Sabha member Kalpataru Das was allotted five houses and plots in the name of his family members and himself, violating the norms.

“The House has the right to know from the chief minister what steps he has taken against the two ruling party politicians,” said the BJP MLA. BJD chief whip Ananta Das said the issues, raised by the Opposition, required to be looked into thoroughly.
