Bhubaneswar: The BJD, the BJP and the Congress on Friday staged separate dharnas on issues ranging from LPG price hike to those affecting farmers.

Staging their dharna in front of Raj Bhavan here, the womens' wing of the BJD criticised the Centre for raising the price of both subsidised and non-subsidised LPG cylinders.

BJD Mahila Morcha chief Pramila Mallick, who led the protest, said: "The Narendra Modi government has raised cooking gas price for the nineteenth time. The recent hike was the fourth in a row since August. The women folk in the state have been hit hard. This shows the Modi government's attitude towards women."

Mallick announced that her party would demonstrate outside the offices of the revenue divisional commissioners on November 6.

In the next phase, they would take the protest in the 314 blocks in the state.

Later, a delegation led by Mallick handed over a memorandum addressed to President Ram Nath Kovind to governor S.C. Jamir.

BJP Mahila Morcha state unit president Pravati Parida did not lose time to criticise the Naveen Patnaik government.

She said: "The BJD has been panicked by the pro-poor schemes of the Modi government. Though there has been a slight rise in the price of LPG cylinders, the Centre has increased the amount of subsidy on cooking gas."
