Cuttack, Sept. 6: Utkal Chamber of Commerce and Industries (UCCI), which had earlier filed a petition challenging Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission’s revised power tariff in Orissa High Court, today pulled out of the case.

The chamber of commerce, representing 239 business houses in the state, filed a memorandum today while the court was hearing the case on Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (OERC) order on enhancing electricity tariff for 2011-12.

The OERC counsel raised objections and sought appropriate orders on the ground that the UCCI had availed the benefits of stay order on power tariff hike from April 1 till June 22.

“The two-judge bench of Justice B.P. Das and Justice B.K. Mishra allowed our petition for withdrawing from the case along with the order for making a contribution of Rs 1 lakh for purchase of books for the library of the High Court Bar Association,” UCCI counsel Pitambar Acharya told The Telegraph.

The bench adjourned hearing on the power tariff case till Monday.
