Cuttack: Police on Monday busted a bike-lift racket with the arrest of one person from Gunjarpur Pirabazar.

The cops also recovered 33 motorcycles following the arrest of Sk Manwar and arrested three more persons in the case.

Investigating a complaint at Jagatpur police station about the theft of a motorcycle, the cops arrested Manwar on Sunday and found that he had stolen it.

The police said Manwar was arrested on charges of bike lifting after it was revealed during interrogation that he had been involved in at least six motorcycle thefts in Cuttack.

Manwar's arrest led to the recovery of all six motorcycles. He also provided information that led to seizure of 27 other motorcycles on Monday.

Acting on Manwar's tip-off, a team from Jagatpur police station, led by assistant sub-inspector J.N. Jena, raided the houses of three persons - Nihar Ranjan Behura, Jagabandhu Gochi and Prakash Kumar Sahoo - and seized the stolen motorcycles.

"The trio collected stolen motorcycles from criminals and sold those to people at a lower price. These include motorcycles stolen from other regions of Odisha and other states," Cuttack deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh said.

Based on the findings, the cops registered a case against the three persons and arrested them.

"An investigation is on to nab other members of the gang," Singh said.
