Innovision-2014, the biggest techno management festival of east zone, organised at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela concluded on Monday. The event gave students a platform to showcase their technical and management skills. Like every year, this year, too, over 800 students from various institutes of the region took part in competitions and exhibitions. Along with debate competition and exhibitions, many other events were also organised to help students develop their technical skills and that would help them in their career. This time, too, Spicmacay event was organised on the campus as part of the Innovision-2014.

National Unity Day

Students of Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar (BJB) Autonomous College, especially those who are members of NCC, Red Cross and NSS, took a pledge of national unity and participated in a run for unity held on Saturday on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel. Students, staff and faculty members of the college took the oath on the campus. The students then took part in a race that started from the campus and passed through Museum Square and returned to the starting point. Later, they participated in debate and essay writing competitions that were based on Sardar Patel’s life, leadership and revolutionary activities.

Centre for entrepreneurs

Koustav Group of Institutions has set up Make-in Campus Development Centre (MCDC) that aim to provide students of this educational centre an opportunity to explore their creative side. The core objective of this centre is to develop entrepreneurial activity within the stakeholders. The college students will have to develop 15 products on the campus in a year's time that can be marketable. Industry and school and mass education minister Debi Prasad Mishra spoke to the students and motivated them to indulge in activities that involve innovation.

Cleanliness drive

Students and faculty members of Siksha O Anusandhan (SOA) University organised a mega cleaning drive at various places in the city as part of the Swachha Bharat Abhiyan on Sunday. Students took up brooms in their hands and cleaned roads and lanes near railway station and other places. They also performed Nukkad or street play to create awareness about the need of cleanliness among the onlookers. Tuneelstuck,-the drama club of Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), co-ordinated the event. Besides, Danza,-the dance club of the institute, organised a flash mob on this occasion. As part of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) and Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel birth anniversary the NCC, NSS and Scout and Guides students of the university organised a programme to mark the run for unity. The participants ran from Master Canteen to Scout and Guide office at Unit-IX. A large number of film stars, sportspersons, singers, dancers, politicians and many other people took part in the event.

Biotech conclave

Students of KIIT University and other educational institutes in the city acquired knowledge about current biotech industry in the country and the possibilities they have in the field at the Indian Biotechnology Industry Conclave-2014. The event was organised by KIIT School of Biotechnology and KIIT-Technology Business Incubator on the university campus on October 31. Govindarajan, head of research and development, Sonafi Aventis, and Amulya Panda, senior scientist of National Institute of Immunology, explained to the students about the current market scenario and abundant opportunities available in this field. Scholars and eminent figures in this field discussed various sphere of biotechnology at the two-day conclave.

NSS camp

The students of Udala College in Mayurbhanj recently took part in an NSS camp. They also carried out cleaning drive in the area and spread awareness on health and hygiene among the local residents. They urged the residents to maintain basic hygiene that could save them from several ailments such as malaria, dengue and other vector-borne diseases. The group, led by their programme officer Soumendra Kumar Dash, Kabita Dandpat and Santosh Kumar Panda, also held a cycle rally around the town carrying banner and placards with messages about the significance of maintaining cleanliness. The students also visited tourist spots such as Panchatirtha and Devkund and cleaned the premises to raise awareness among people.

Czech education fair

Students of KIIT University got a first-hand knowledge of the education system of Czech Republic through Czech education fair held on Saturday on the university campus. Representatives of Czech universities, led by Miloslav Stasek, Czech ambassador to India, visited KIIT University and KISS (Kalinga Institute of Social Science). The fair was organised to develop education system of the two countries.
