Bhubaneswar, Aug. 5: Sanitation woes in areas north of NH-5 in Bhubaneswar up to Cuttack limits will soon come to an end.
Four bidders have been shortlisted to execute a Rs 845-crore Odisha Integrated Sanitation Improvement Project (OISIP) in these areas.
The work is scheduled to start this November and is likely to be completed by December 2015.
Sewage work in the rest of the capital is under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
However, these areas beginning on the north of NH-5 in Bhubaneswar — from Palasuni to IRC Village and other areas up to the limits of Cuttack city — were not included in the JNNURM-assisted list earlier. But now the need for a special sanitation drive has been felt here as the areas are rapidly developing.
“Under OISIP there will be provision for integrated road relaying work, which means the executing agency will also have the responsibility to repair the road after the sewerage is completed,” said Dwaipayan Pattanaik, project director, OISIP. OISIP is funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency.
The project will include renovating the drainage network in Cuttack, covering drainage channels in certain places and setting up of sewage treatment plants at Mattagajpur, CDA areas in Cuttack and Rokat in Bhubaneswar.
OISIP sources said these areas, which include Palasuni, Mancheswar, VSS Nagar, Vani Vihar, Jayadev Vihar, IRC Village, Nayapalli, Maitree Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Niladri Vihar, Sailashree Vihar, Damana and Patia, were developing very fast.
Besides, many educational institutions are situated here. OISIP officials have presented their project at the council meeting of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation on July 30 and explained its features to the councillors.
