Bhubaneswar: There has been a change of developer for construction of the new Bhubaneswar Railway Station building along with other infrastructure at Master Canteen Square.
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has taken over the job from the Public Works Department as it is the special purpose vehicle for the smart city project.
The state government has already asked the works department to return Rs 30 crore sanctioned for the new station project to the development authority. The total cost of the project stands at Rs 60 crore.
"We have engaged a Singapore-based firm for preparation of detailed project report for the railway station multi-modal hub. We plan to engage the same firm to design the new station building. The project report will be given to the government by the end of December," said an official of the development authority.
The government has also put in place a three-tier monitoring system for project.
The first high-level meeting was held earlier this month to discuss the project bottlenecks. Panel chairman and chief secretary A.P Padhi has directed officials to complete the process for demolition of Ashoka Market by the end of December. Besides, the process is in place to shift the city bus stand. "We are waiting for the orders from the authority to demolish Ashoka Market. Vendors have already been allotted shops elsewhere. Once they shift their shops, the requisition will be made and the unsafe market building will be demolished," said BDA's liaison officer Subhransu Mohanty.
Kharavela Nagar resident Rajkumar Hota said: "The authority should speed up work and finish the project on time."
