Balasore: A long-pending requirement of the district headquarters hospital here was fulfilled on Sunday with the inauguration of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine.

The unit, established in public-private partnership under Nidaan scheme of the state government, has been made operational from Sunday. This is the first MRI unit in any government establishment of north Odisha for providing free of cost treatment to patients. "The unit will be of great help for the people of north Odisha as patients from this region had to travel to Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to get MRI done," said Balasore MP R.K. Jena.

Chief district medical officer Vivekananda Das said that with the installation of the MRI machine, the Balasore District Headquarters Hospital was equipped with all specialised equipment required for diagnosis and treatment.

"The hospital is equipped with CT scan, dialysis and ultrasound facilities, apart from a hi-tech super-specialty diagnostic laboratory. The patients can get all diagnostic facilities under one roof free of cost," said Das.

Manager of Add Annex Health Care Private Limited Chinmaya Chiranjeevi Bal said the unit would remain open round the clock.

"This unit will provide service for 24 hours to the patients as suggested by the government," said Bal.
