Rourkela: Police on Sunday arrested three persons for brutally beating up and sexually abusing a woman.
Plant Site police arrested Kapoor Sharma, 55, his son Sanjay Sharma, 25, and Rohan Sharma. All the three belonged to Indira Nagar near the Rourkela railway station.
The woman works as a light bearer in marriage processions for a catering house. On June 17, she was returning home from work late in the evening while the accused persons waylaid her. When she resisted, they forcibly tookher away to mud house and kept her confined there.
"She was beaten up and sexually abused there for the whole night. The next morning, they threw her on a railway track thinking that she was dead," said deputy police superintendent P.K. Mishra.
Local people rescued her from the railway track and informed her family members. She was then taken to the Rourkela Government Hospital where she underwent treatment till June 22.
Upon returning from the hospital, she went to Plant Site police station to lodge a complaint. But when the police refused to take complaint, she approached local BJD worker Prakash Paswan for help.
With the help of Paswan, she reached the office of the Rourkela police superintendent and lodged a complaint.
