Cuttack: The administration on Wednesday called upon entrepreneurs to up plastic waste recycling plants that have become essential to deal with the burgeoning problem of plastic waste.

Addressing a workshop on plastic waste management, Cuttack collector Sushanta Mohapatra said the government's micro, medium and small enterprises department would support plastic waste recycling units with 50 per cent subsidy.

"Besides, the administration will provide land for plastic waste recycling plants," Mohapatra assured.

The Cuttack collector expressed concern over the massive scale in which the volume of plastic waste had increased in recent years.

He conceded that the administration had not been able to spread the required awareness about the menace of plastic waste among the people.

Municipal commissioner Bikash Ranjan Mohapatra said small plastic waste recycling plants would help overcome the transportation and disposal problem of plastic waste. "It is important to segregate plastic waste from solid waste," he said, and underscored the need for taking to task the source or units producing plastic or polythene bags of less than 50 microns thickness as part of implementation of Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016.
