Balasore, March 18: Barsa Swony Chaudhary, daughter-in-law of former minister Raghunath Mohanty, has allegedly received another anonymous threat letter.

A week ago, she had reportedly received a threat letter. Barsa had levelled the dowry torture allegation against Mohanty a year ago.

Mohanty, his wife and son Rajashree were put behind the bars. At present, the Mohanty couple are out on bail.

The threat letter, a postcard written in English, reached Barsa’s parental house on Friday.

On receipt of the letter, her father K.K. Chaudhary approached the home department. He was advised to lodge a police complaint.

Chaudhary said: “I have lodged a complaint with Town police on the home department’s instruction. This is the second letter received by us in a week. We are worried and very much scared. The letter again threatened that my daughter would meet the same fate as others, such as Anjana Mishra.”

“I strongly suspect that it is the handiwork of her in-laws,” he said. Barsa said: “We are waiting for police action, and if nothing happens, I will meet the home secretary after a week.” The police said the matter was under investigation and authenticity of both the letters would be verified.

Inspector in charge of Town police station Bijay Murmu said: “Both the letters would be examined scientifically for authenticity.” Barsa has filed three separate cases at various courts of Balasore, besides the dowry torture one against her in-laws.

The police’s human rights protection cell, which is investigating the dowry torture allegation, has filed charge sheet against all five, including former minister Mohanty, a month ago.
