Rourkela: A musical concert to commemorate singer Mohammad Rafi was held here on Tuesday. Shaam-E-Rafi was organised by Hum Nishad, an organisation run by musician Sanchita Choudhury.
Choudhury said: "Being an ardent fan of Mohammad Rafi, I conceived the idea and conveyed it to my friends. The organisation was created six years ago and we have received immense support from people."
Many memorable songs by Rafi were sung by the performers. The evening begun with Choudhury's performance on " Tum mujhe yun bhula." The Bhanja Auditorium was packed to the capacity despite heavy rainfall.
Public relation officer of Rourkela Steel Plant Archana, a regular singer, also took part in the evening.
She said: "I love to perform here because the show is managed professionally."
Twenty-eight songs were performed in the two-hour concert. The songs were chosen carefully keeping in mind the audience taste. Students of Hum Nishad sang immortal numbers such as Allah tore naam iswar tore naam, koyal boli and wadiyan tera daman.
Debajit Rabha sang an Assamese song sung by Rafi.
Government notary Sailendra Mohanty said: "I come to this event regularly. They come up with quality music."
