Bhubaneswar: Problems for people commuting between Jayadev Vihar Square and Nandankanan will continue for a little longer as the alternative road project planned along this stretch faces hurdles.
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority had last year decided to lay five parallel roads each on the left and the right side of this 5km stretch to lessen the burden on the main stretch.
The authorities have so far completed the work on one alternative route that connects Ekamra Park and Rental Colony on the left side and another that connects Damana and Sainik School Square on the right side of the road, while the work on other four routes on each side are either in the mid way or have not started yet.
"We need to undertake a number of eviction and demolition activities. We also have to acquire certain lands. We have discussed on the problems and will shortly come up with solution," said an authority official.
Officials said there were issues related to forest land clearance since some of the new roads fell near the Chandaka division. Besides, the government land acquisition cropped up as another problem between Pathargadia and OERC Building via Infocity.
The authorities are also facing problem in land acquisition between Netaji Subash Enclave and Patia Railway Station, apart from the connector of Patia railway station and Patia Big Bazar Square.
"It is a busy street, and congestion as well as rash driving is a major problem here," said Damana resident Jitu Sarangi.
"We have discussed on the aspects and set timelines for each of the activities. The forest land clearance aspect will be taken care by the forest and environment department, while the Khurda district administration has been requested to deal with the land acquisition issues," said a senior official.
"We will ,complete the work in two years," said the official.
