Keonjhar: A teenager killed his father and a man murdered his spouse in the latest incidents of alcohol-induced violence in the district.

A 16-year-old came home drunk on Friday night. When his father started beating him up, he retaliated killing the older man.

The incident took place at Sapakanta village in Sadar police station limits. The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Bira Munda.

The accused beat up his father with a bamboo stick. Munda, who was injured in the head, bled profusely and died on the way to hospital.

The assailant being a minor was produced before the juvenile justice board. He was later remanded in correctional home by the board, said sub-divisional police officer Sriharsha Mishra.

In the second incident, a 46-year-old tribal man allegedly killed his wife, Raimani Munda, 32, at Mundasahi village in Harichandanpur police limits.

Bideshi Munda, the accused, was arrested and remanded in judicial custody.

Alcohol-induced violence is being frequently reported from various police station areas of the district. The police are trying to involve civil society groups to create awareness in people to give up liquor, Mishra said.
