Green message

On the occasion of Van Mahotsav, a plantation programme was organised by Gurukulam School on its campus at Rath Road in Bhubaneswar. Sujit Mahapatra, the founder of Bakul Foundation, attended the programme as chief guest and planted saplings on the school premises. The chief guest, the managing trustee and the principal of the school briefed the students about the benefits of afforestation. Mahapatra requested the students to take a pledge to plant two trees every year. Managing trustee Jitendra Kumar Pati spoke to the parents and told them that it was only through taking care of nature that they could ensure a healthy future for their children.

For Kalam sir

Around 2,500 students of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, took part in the “Dear Kalam Sir” campaign, a unique handwritten tribute on postcards to the former President, who passed away last year. The campaign’s motive was to spread the ideologies of the rocket scientist. The postcards would be a part of a grand exhibition and displayed in New Delhi in the last week of July to mark his first death anniversary. The campaign is being spearheaded by DAV College managing committee, New Delhi, in association with LetterFarms, an NGO in Kochi.

Foundation day

The 10th foundation day celebrations of KIIT International School was held recently. Rajendra Prasad Sharma, the director general of vigilance, who was the chief guest said: “The focus of schools nowadays has gone beyond bookish knowledge. They aim for the overall development of the students.” Speaking on the occasion, Deepa Prasad, the Odisha head of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), said most of the students of public schools were privileged. “The privileged section of society is disconnected from reality,” said Prasad. “Gender inequality still prevails in our society and violence against women and girls is on the rise,” she added, while advocating the empowerment of women. The principal of the school, Sanjay Suar, presented the annual report. Meritorious students of the school were also awarded on the occasion.

Chairman’s club

The chairman’s club - an initiative by Sai International School, Bhubaneswar, honoured students from Class V to XII, for their outstanding results. The objective of the club is to help students raise their academic standards. The club allows its student members to enjoy certain privileges such as issuing of extra books from the school library, special sessions and lectures with experts from various fields, luncheons, movies and outings. “The students need opportunities to develop and excel in their respective fields of interest for which the club is a perfect platform of motivation and encouragement,” said B.K.
