Bhubaneswar, March 4: The ongoing art exhibition at the Odisha Modern Art Gallery is drawing a lot of visitors. Two artists known for their experiments with different genres are showcasing their works at the event.

Titled 'Replay,' the art show consists of paintings and drawings and can be described as a collage of the abstract. The paintings, in effect, are the defined ideas of artists Pradosh Swain and Rajesh Nayak.

Pradosh, known for his broad range of colours and symbols, is displaying his best paintings at the art show. He uses political and social icons like the national emblem consisting of the four lions or even the symbol of Lady Justice representing law can be seen among other depictions. A clock that portrays the current time is also attracting many visitors. His art talks about the decline of law, justice and social order to mere symbols and formalities.

When it comes to choosing shades for the canvas, Pradosh picks up blue, grey or yellow in neither their richest nor lightest hues. Contrasting colours are seldom seen in his works; lending a mystic touch to the kaleidoscope of ideas he puts together to form a brilliant theme.

Rajesh, known for his illustrations, has brought a series of drawings to the gallery for the connoisseurs of art. His works in ink on paper, display the limitless power of women, both physically and intellectually. Each work depicts a woman in a physical motion. The illustrator puts across his themes in black and white.

The art works have been well received by the visitors at the exhibition that was inaugurated on March 2.

"Both works belong to different genres and both offers immense insights to thoughts, befitting the contemporary times," said Tarakant Parida, secretary of the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, who was present at the inauguration. Eminent singer Prafulla Kar, veteran painter Baladev Maharatha and former bureaucrat Abasar Beuria were also invited for the inauguration.

The exhibition closes on Thursday evening.
