Cuttack, May 2: Members of Child Line rescued a child, who was deserted by his mother at S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital here today. Police sources said the three-month-old male child was in the custody of a couple from Dhenkanal who reported to the matter to them.
Puspalata Sahoo (39) of Badajhara village in Dhenkanal district had come to the hospital for the treatment of her motheR today. Around noon, a woman asked her to look after her child for few minutes. “We did not know the woman who approached us and asked to look after the child for few minutes. But as the woman did not return, we were worried for the child as he was hungry,” said Puspalata. According to Puspalata, the woman in her 30s also gave them a bag with a few clothes and a bottle for the child.
The matter came to light after another woman approached Puspalata to hand over the baby to her.
Members of Child Line rescued the boy, who would be kept at Basundhara after preliminary treatment.
“We had received a call from officials of S.C.B. Medical College outpost regarding the incident. It appears that the woman had deserted her child as he may be suffering from some disorders. We will now initiate steps for the rehabilitation of the child,” said Child Line team member Narayan Shukla.
Puspalata had named the baby Satya Sai as he was wearing a locket of Sai baba.
