A show of defence & patriotism

The coast guard today showcased its maritime surveillance prowess and combative skills at an event aimed to create awareness among the people about coastal security mechanism.

Paradip, Jan. 8: The coast guard today showcased its maritime surveillance prowess and combative skills at an event aimed to create awareness among the people about coastal security mechanism.

During the event, A Day At The Sea, live demonstration of light weapon firing and cross boarding operations on board launched from coast guard ships were performed.

Civil dignitaries, personnel of Paradip industries and the stakeholders of coastal security were present during the event. The objective was to enlighten civilians about security prowess of the coast guard.

"It was an attempt on part of the coast guard personnel to familiarise people with warfare methodology," said commandant coast guard Paradip, Ashis.

Coast guard ships and Dornier aircrafts were pressed into service for the event. The well-planned manoeuvres that included anti-piracy and anti-smuggling drills, steam past, fly past and anti-aircraft and surface firing left everyone clapping. The audience was amazed at the sight of the Dornier flying past coast guard ships. The formation flying performed by the Dornier aircraft was also applauded.

The boarding operation informed the audience about the coast guard's missions on the high seas. It was interesting to see the vessels lined up as the exercise came to culmination.

The event enlightened the audience on the multifarious capabilities of the coast guard in defending the nation's maritime interests. The coast guard performed before hundreds of spectators displaying self-command and patriotism.

"The exercise was aimed at creating awareness about coastal security mechanism. The spectators were told about the surveillance, detection and identification of enemy forces, communication network and security measures and rescue missions. They were also told about the standard operating procedures of the sea-route security mechanism," said a coast guard personnel.

"The operational demonstration and technical infrastructure of naval power left many awestruck. It has given people the exposure to the pros and cons of maritime security," said local resident Sarat Rout.

"The manoeuvring operation of aircrafts and warships enthralled us. The show was unforgettable," said local resident Binay Ray.
