Bhubaneswar, June 19: At least 90 students from the state have made it to the all-India merit list of the JEE Advanced examination, the results of which were announced today.
Sattwik Deb Mishra of DAV Public School (Chandrasekharpur) emerged as the state topper securing the all-India rank of 131.
“It is the result of my hard work and I would like to thank my family and teachers for all their support,” he said. Twenty-nine students from the school have made it to the merit list.
With an all-India rank of 168, Debarnab Mitra of DAV Public School, Pokhariput, has bagged the second position in the state.
“It’s a dream come true. I gave my best efforts for the preparation and am overjoyed after knowing the results,” said Debarnab.
Another 10 students of the school have cleared the entrance exam.
Similarly, Rajsekhar Mohapatra of Mother’s Public School secured the 278 all-India rank. Around 25 students of the school secured ranks in the exam.
The results are available on the website http://jeeadv.iitd.ac.in/ and students can get their rank by entering their JEE (Advanced) 2014 roll number and date of birth on the website, informed IIT authorities
Only the top 1.5 lakh rank holders of the JEE (Mains) examination were eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced examination. A total of 46,096 students from Odisha, including 31, 337 boys and 14, 759 girls, had taken the JEE (Mains). Of these, 3,202 students qualified for the JEE Advanced.
The ranks will help students to secure admissions to various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Mandi, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar and Varanasi. This apart, the students can also apply to Indian School of Mines in Dhanbad. There are a total of 9,784 seats in 16 IITs and ISM Dhanbad.
IIT-Kharagpur had coordinated the test this year conducted on May 25.
IIT and ISM aspirants can start filing their choices for their preferred institute and courses from tomorrow till June 24.
Architecture aspirants having cleared the JEE Advanced exam will be required to attempt the Architecture Aptitude Test that will be conducted on June 26.
Officials of a private coaching centre, which conducts coaching classes for IIT aspirants, said the number of girl students were fewer. “This could be because girls generally prefer to go for medical and avoid engineering. The number of girls enrolling for coaching is generally less as compare to boys,” he said.
