Jajpur: Barachana police on Sunday arrested three youths for allegedly posting derogatory remarks about a woman leader on social media.

The trio have been identified as Pabitra Samal, 29, of Bilikana, Biswajit Singh, 30, of Anaka, and Prasanna Baliarsingh, 28, of Nuahat, under Barachana police limits. The arrests came after BJP state secretary Simantini Jena filed a police complaint. The police said Jena lodged the complaint on Saturday night after seeing a photograph of her with local MLA and BJD leader Amar Prasad Satpathy with derogatory remarks insulting her status, dignity and character. Samal had posted the picture, while the other two accused made lewd and derogatory comments.

"Based on the complaint, we picked up the trio from their respective villages. Samal confessed that he had taken the picture of Jena and Satpathy while they were present at an event and posted it on Facebook," said Barachana police station officer-in-charge Anita Sahoo.
