Bhubaneswar, Aug. 5: The first round of Plus Two admissions concluded today. Over 2 lakh candidates have been admitted in various junior colleges across the state.
The first round of admissions had started on August 1 and 2,34,462 applicants had been issued intimation letters. S.N. Mohanty, principal of BJB (Junior) College, said that more than 85 per cent seats in science and commerce streams had been filled while there were quite a few vacancies in arts, which are expected to be occupied in the second round of admission.
“The admission process was conducted smoothly. Candidates from the reserved categories had to submit valid documents. Those who could not furnish documents were refused admission. But that does not mean they are out of the process. Their names would be validated on the e-admission software as general category candidates,” Mohanty added.
In BJB (Junior) College, a total of 112 students took admissions in commerce against a total available strength of 128 seats, while 430 students took admission in arts, which has 512 seats. In science, the number of students admitted is 465 while there are 544 seats on offer.
Seats were quickly filled up in other colleges in the capital. In Basic Science (Junior) College, 344 students were admitted in the science stream in the first selection.
Similarly, in Ramadevi (Junior) College, the number of students enrolled in different streams at the end of the five-day admission is: 437 for arts, 353 for science and 206 in commerce.
At Rajdhani (Junior) College, 340 students took admission in the science stream. For arts, the number of students enrolled stands at 206, and for commerce, it is 101.
Maharishi (Junior) College of Natural Law also saw a good number of takers in science, arts and commerce streams. As many as 426 students took admission in science while in arts, 96 students were enrolled. In commerce, 94 students were admitted.
The updated data of the first round of admission will be published on August 6 on the official website of the higher education department (www.dheorissa.in).
The second selection merit list will be announced on August 11 at 11am and admissions will be conducted on two consecutive days — August 16 and 17.
This year, all 1,301 junior colleges have been included in the e-admission procedure. The sanctioned strength in all these colleges is 3,07,766. A total of 2,75,212 applications have been submitted.
