Sonepur: A local court on Saturday sentenced a man to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for abducting and raping a minor girl.
Additional district judge Pratima Panda also ordered Naseeb Khan to pay Rs 10,000 as fine, which would be handed over to the survivor's family.
Khan, a 28-year-old resident of Majhipada in Sonepur town, traded in cosmetic good and travelled to villages to sell the products.
He came in contact with a family belonging to his community at Kenjhriapali village in Birmaharajpur police limits about four years ago and often lived with them when he visited the area.
In December 2014, when Naseeb was alone in the house with the 15-years-old girl, he abducted her and took her to the nearby forest where he raped her.
The family members lodged a missing persons diary with Birmaharajpur police, who rescued the girl from the forest after two days. She was sent for medical examination, which confirmed that she had been repeatedly raped.
The cops arrested Naseeb and charged him under the Indian Penal Code and the Pocso Act. He was sent in judicial custody after his bail plea was rejected.
Special public prosecutor Dasaratha Moharana, who acted as counsel for the survivor, said: "The court has sentenced him to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, including 10 years under Section 376 (2), three years under Section 363 and one year under Section 454 of the Indian Penal Code. The court has also ordered him to pay the fine amount to the family of the survivor."
