Berhampur, March 17: Twelve-year-old Swayam Sudha has bagged a gold medal and a certificate of appreciation in the National Environment Talent Search Examination (NETSE) 2010. However, what makes this achievement all the more special is the fact that this Class VI student of De Paul School is the only successful candidate from Orissa this year.
“I am feeling very proud and happy. My neighbours always thought that I would excel in the NETSE. My father, Dr Dilip Kumar Patra, a lecturer in Chemistry in the City College, and my mother, Rashmi Rekha, also helped me in the endeavour,” said Swayam Sudha who lives at Gajapati Nagar here. Her parents and elder sister, Shmidhi Kalpita, who studies in Class X in De Paul School, were overjoyed when they got to know the results on Thursday.
“Swayam Sudha has secured 96 per cent marks and it is definitely a great achievement at the all-India level,” said her family members in unison.
Dilip said: “She is involved in many co-curricular activities and her hobbies include poetry, story writing and art. I am very happy about the success of my daughter.”
Principal of De Paul School Father Saju Antony said: “She is an active child and a very good student. Last year she even anchored the annual day programme of our institution. Her parents are also very helpful and cooperative. One of our boys, Vishal Patnaik, studying Class X had won the silver medal in NETSE-2009. It is for the second time that our school has excelled. It is an honour for the Depaulians.”
Surajita Raj, the teacher-in-charge of the NETSE in De Paul School, has also been awarded a silver medal and a certificate of appreciation for having rendered voluntary services and cooperation for the success of the examination.
“This is a double bonanza for my school and we are proud to honour Swayam Sudha and Surajita Raj for their extraordinary achievement in the school assembly in presence of the staff and students on Thursday (March 17),” said Father Antony.
“It is a very big encouragement for the teachers and the students. Our school is now identified at the all-India level,” said Surajita. A total of 117 students from the De Paul School had appeared in NETSE-2010, which was held at the De Paul School.
