Zibran seals title for Sarala Birla

Guwahati, Nov. 23: An unbeaten ton by Zibran Das helped Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti annex the fifth Sitaram Agarwala under-16 inter-school cricket tournament title organised by Bud Cricket Club defeating Don Bosco School by a convincing margin of 52 runs at Judges Field here yesterday.

Opting to field, defending champions Don Bosco School witnessed Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti batsmen put up a decent total of 237 runs for the loss of six wickets in their stipulated 40 overs. Zibran Das rose to the occasion with an unbeaten knock of 145 runs off 117 balls, which featured 19 hits to the fence and four over the ropes while Rahul Agarwal chipped in with 24 runs off 41 deliveries, including three boundaries. Anindya Sarma contributed 17 runs off 15 balls. Nahid H. Saikia picked up three wickets for 47 runs in his allotted eight overs while Manikarna Sarma bagged two wickets conceding 46 runs in his quota of overs. Erik Roy took one wicket for 19 runs in his five overs.

In reply, Don Bosco boys managed 185 runs before being all out in 38 overs. Erik Roy topscored for his side with 96 runs off 74 balls, which included 11 boundaries and four sixes, while Manikarna Sarma and Reshab Barman chipped in with 14 and 13 runs respectively.

Zibran was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 23 runs in his three overs while Subham Agarwal scalped two wickets conceding 21 runs in five overs. Kaustav Hazarika, Ronak More and Manjeet Choudhury took one wicket each.

Zibran was adjudged the Man of the Match for his splendid all-round performance in the match while Erik Roy was awarded the Man of the Series trophy. Rohan Dutta of Don Bosco School walked away with the Best Bowler award while Hasmi R. Islam of Royal Global School was adjudged the Best Fielder. Zibran Das walked away with the Best Batsman award while Sayan Dey of Modern English School was adjudged the Best Wicketkeeper.
