Imphal, Dec. 17: Youth Welfare Club, Thambalkhong blanked Eastern Railway Protection Force 3-0 in the quarter-final league round of the 52nd Sir Churchand Singh football tournament at Mapal Kangjeibung here today.

The Youth Welfare players dominated the proceedings and struck first blood in the 16th minute when I. Seityasen Singh netted a goal.

Eastern Railway, on the other hand, failed to make use of their early chances.

In the second half, Youth Welfare once again struck in the 79th minute as T. Jackychand lofted a shot to beat the Railway keeper Md F. Sheikh.

The second goal helped Youth Welfare adopt an all-out offensive.

The move paid off in the 86th minute when L. Sumin Singh capitalised on a goalmouth melee to score the team’s third goal.

In another quarter-final match, Sambalpur Football Academy held last year’s runners-up All Moirang Football Association to a 4-4 draw.

Manipur taekwondo

K. Mangal Singh bagged the senior boys’ lightweight gold in the 24th Manipur State-level Taekwondo Championship at Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium.

Mangal beat L. Jonish for the gold in the 67kg-72kg senior boys’ lightweight bout.

In the junior girls 49kg-52kg bout, N. Kalpana Devi won the gold, K. Thoibisana Devi the silver while Th. Rebika Devi and W. Achoubi Devi secured bronze medals.

In the senior girls 51kg-63kg bout, N. Joymala Devi took the gold while O. Ruhini Devi fetched silver and S. Bita Devi bagged the bronze.

In the senior men’s 54kg category, S. Johny Singh grabbed the gold, while S. Kevin Singh won the silver medal.

In the sub-junior girls fin weight 18kg-21kg bout, K. Krishtina Devi won the gold and S. Nancy Devi fetched the silver. Th. Sunita Devi defeated Th. Imom Devi for the gold in the senior women fin weight.

In the junior girls’ fin weight bout, Ch. Nganthoi Devi bagged the gold.
