Dibrugarh, April 22: Tultul Baglary, 22, alias Kai Khaplang was today arrested from his residence at Garudhoria under Barbaruah police station after allegedly threatening to kill singer Zubeen Garg.
Yesterday, Baglary posted on his Facebook page that he would shoot Zubeen with a 9mm pistol at a Bihu function at Chowkidinghee field in Dibrugarh. The post had gone viral.
Zubeen was in the news this past week since he walked off the stage after the organisers of Noonmati Bihu Sanmilani asked him not to sing Hindi songs. He objected, saying he cannot be dictated to.
The youth is a school dropout. He appeared for matriculation from Dibrugarh Government Boys' High School in 2009 but was unsuccessful.
Dibrugarh superintendent of police Gautam Bora said, "This morning we got specific information on Baglary and traced his whereabouts and arrested him from his residence."
A case has been registered against him at Dibrugarh police station. Bora added: "We have seen from his Facebook account that he liked the posts of Ulfa (I) and shared its posts. We have seized his SIM card but didn't find his mobile phone."
The Dibrugarh SP said several other persons are also involved in this case. "We are taking the case seriously because many other things may come up while investigating."
Baglary said he likes the songs of Zubeen but doesn't approve of his attitude. "I've no connection with any militant group,'" he said.
In his Facebook account, he has mentioned that he belongs to the All Assam Tribal Sangha. Later, Sangha convener Aditya Khaklary clarified that the boy was not a member of the organisation.
"It may be a publicity stunt because nowadays everybody posts something on Facebook for publicity. The youth also thought he might gain popularity if he posts something on Assam singer Zubeen Garg," a source said.
Zubeen enthralled the audience at Chowkidinghee Field in Dibrugarh after 20 years last evening.
