Youth held for obscene post

Dhubri police on Friday arrested a youth from Dhubri town, Rahul Prasad, for posting obscene content on social media.

According to the police, the accused, a resident of ward 13 of Dhubri town, had uploaded content that could have potentially caused friction between two communities.

Dhubri Sadar police have registered a case against the youth under Section 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot)/153 (A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), and Section 67 of IT Act of IPC based on a complaint from a couple of local residents. He has been sent to judicial custody.

Earlier, the residents gathered at Dhubri police station on Thursday and demanded stern action against the youth.

The police also appealed to all sections of community of the district to refrain any objectionable post or comment on social media to maintain peace and harmony across the district. Stern action will be taken against those attempting to create disharmony in the district, said the police.
