Jorhat, Feb. 25: A confluence of cultures, environmental concerns and world peace will mark a seven-day mahayagna to be held at Kolakhowa near the eastern bypass of this town from February 28.
The organisers said this would be the first such yagna to be held in Upper Assam, the third in the state after Kokrajhar and Guwahati, and the 87th in the country.
Rajani Thakur, president of the organising committee, today said the yagna’s theme was world peace and it would play an integrating role in which Assam, Odisha and Bengal would come together.
The Koli Kolush Nason Seva Trust of Cuttack, Odisha, will perform the yagna, for which idol makers from Kumartuli in Bengal have created idols, including a 36-feet idol of goddess Durga, over a five-bigha plot.
Plastics will be banned at the venue.
