Guwahati, Sept. 6: For once, students in Guwahati will wish away the weekend. For once, they will long for Monday morning.

Lectures will take a backseat, books will remain in the satchel and the canteen adda will begin and end with how close you can get to Zubeen Garg.

Ya Ali! It will be a day to remember!

The youth icon has decided to pay tribute to all those who are responsible for his popularity — the youths he means — and guess how?

The singer will hit four city colleges on that day and perform solely for the students as part of the launch of his Hindi album, Zindagi.

His first stop will be his alma mater, B. Borooah College, followed by short performances at Gauhati Commerce College, Handique Girls’ College and Cotton College.

“The youths are my biggest fans and all credit go to them for my success. My new album is a tribute to them. I will be singing at several colleges in short-duration performances,” Zubeen said from Hyderabad today.

In fact, the singer has promised to donate part of the album’s proceeds to his college which was gutted in a fire two years ago.

Zubeen also has plans to perform in colleges outside the city — the dates for which are being worked out.

“Besides singing, I will also interact with the students and try to understand them. Their feedback will help me sing more for them,” he said.

In October, Zubeen will light up the silver screen with a youth-oriented film, Mon Jai.

“The story of the film revolves around the struggle of four Assamese jobless youths. Zubeen, who plays the lead, is an unemployed youth who wanders from place to place in search of a job. Poverty finally takes the four to the world of crime,” Manoj Das, the producer of the film, said.

Nishita Goswami has been cast opposite Zubeen in the film.

Youths are sure to flood the theatres in October but for now, they can hardly wait for Monday.

“This is really great news. We are eagerly waiting for September 10. Zubeen is a role model for me and I feel inspired by his struggle and success story,” Hrishikesh Goswami, a student of Cotton College, said.

All four colleges where Zubeen will perform are making special arrangements to welcome the singer.

B. Borooah College, in fact, will hold a felicitation for its famous alumnus.
