Guwahati, July 6: Promising youngsters Wasiqur Rahman and Kon Orang have been named among the probables for the state Ranji Trophy team for the next season.
The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) today named 30 probables excluding three proposed outstation professional recruits for the fitness-cum-selection camp here from July 15 for the senior team’s summer exposure tours.
The list of probables was submitted to the ACA by the selection committee on June 17 and the ACA forwarded it to the newly constituted cricket committee for perusal before inviting the probables to the fitness and selection camp.
It has been proposed that the professional recruits would have to be part of the team for the exposure tours too.
The tours include participation in the Buchi Babu Tournament in Chennai, Karnataka State Cricket Association invitation tournament in Bangalore, Moin-Ud Dowla Gold Cup in Hyderabad and other arranged series with better rated state teams on ahome-and-away basis.
Barring teenagers Rahman and Orang, the other new faces among the probables include Sekharjyoti Barman, Bhaskarjyoti Barman and Kangkan Das.
This is the first time the ACA has named the probables for the Ranji team well ahead of time. The resolution to name the probables within a week was adopted in the first meeting of the cricket committee here on June 13. Earlier, the probables were usually named in September or October.
Assam have been grouped with Karnataka, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Baroda, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh in Elite Group B. The group league will commence on November 1.
The probables: Parvez Aziz, Amit Sinha, Abhijit Singha Roy, Shiv Shankar Roy, Pritam Debnath, Rishav Das, Tarjinder Singh, Deepak Sharma, Gokul Sharma, Kangkan Das, Arminder Singh Oberoi, Dhiraj Goswami, Swarupam Purkayastha, Utpal Medhi, Sujoy Tarafdar, Pritam Das, Abu Nechim Ahmed, Ranjit Mali, Arup Das, Krishna Das, Arlen Konwar, Prakash Bhagat, Bitop Mahanta, Bhaskarjyoti Barman, Bichitra Barua, Kinal Saikia, Rajdeep Das, Wasiqur Rahman, Kon Orang and Sekharjyoti Barman.
