Union top in Manipur

Union Taekwondo Academy (UTA) grabbed five gold medals on the last day to claim the overall team champion's title in the 29th Manipur State Taekwondo Championship and 12th Governor's Taekwondo Cup, Manipur, 2016, which concluded at National Sports Academy's Imphal Training Hall in Khuman Lampak.

MANIPUR TAEKWONDO

Imphal, Aug. 23: Union Taekwondo Academy (UTA) grabbed five gold medals on the last day to claim the overall team champion's title in the 29th Manipur State Taekwondo Championship and 12th Governor's Taekwondo Cup, Manipur, 2016, which concluded at National Sports Academy's Imphal Training Hall in Khuman Lampak.

UTA finished with 552 points for the champion's title while NSA, Imphal, fetched the runner-up title with 296 points and SAI RC took the third spot with 253.

UTA landed their first gold of the day in the senior boys under-63kg with M. Parihanba getting the better of N. Bishorjit while N. Ranbirsana of SAI took the bronze medal.

The cadet boys' under-33kg was an all-UTA affair with Robinson Kongjengbam getting the gold after beating L. Jilangamba while Th John Meitei took bronze.

In the cadet girls' over-59kg, UTA player Binita Laishram claimed the gold while in the junior girls over 68kg, S. Sushmita Devi added another gold.

Super Division football: XI Star Sporting Union blanked out Athletic Brothers Association by 2-0 goals in the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Imphal East Super Division Football League Tournament, 2016, at SWC ground, Khongman, here today. Th. Kishan Singh and Ningthing Awugshi scored the goals.

In another match, SAK Yumnam Khunou beat Nivso Keibi 4-3.

Chandel First Division: NW Chandel beat CCYC Chandel by a solitary goal in the DSA Chandel First Division Football League, 2016. P.R. Shangpa scored the lone winning goal. In another match, CYCC Chandel thrashed CKYC 5-0.

Inter-college basketball: Don Bosco College, Maram, emerged winner, beating Manipur University in the MU Inter-College Basketball (Men's) Tournament, 2016-17, at MU Basketball Court, Canchipur. Don Bosco College overcame Manipur University by 16-11 points. In the women's category, Biramangol College, Sawombung, beat MU 17-10 point to emerge champion.
