Guwahati, April 1: Ulfa (Independent) today again requested the residents of Margherita Assembly constituency in Upper Assam not to vote for BJP candidate Bhaskar Sharma, saying Sharma was one of the main persons behind secret killings.

In a statement issued to the media, Ulfa (I) requested the people to recall the days when many had lost their lives in secret killings. The outfit said it is not in favour of any political party and has no objection if the people of Margherita constituency elected a "stump" as their representative. But "to elect Bhaskar Sharma is not only unfortunate but also shameful".

On March 29, Ulfa (I) demanded the Assam BJP leadership to clarify its stand on seven issues, including the disappearance of 26 of its (Ulfa-I) cadres since the Bhutan operation and alleged secret killings.

The militant group requested the people not to participate in any programme organised by the BJP till the party clarified its stand.

Ulfa (I) also asked the BJP leadership to aplogise to the family members of those who were killed by Bhaskar Sharma.

On the other hand, reacting to chief minister Tarun Gogoi's statement that he will recommend a CBI inquiry into the secret killings, BJP leader Bijon Mahajan today said Gogoi's statement reflected the failure of his government to apprehend even a single person involved in these killings during his 15-year rule.

"The Congress is using the secret killings as an issue to win elections and is not sincere. Otherwise why, in the past 15 years, was it not able to arrest even one accused or file even a single chargesheet in any of the secret killing cases?" Mahajan asked.

Accusing Gogoi of shielding the perpetrators of secret killings, Mahajan demanded that the government should come out with a white paper on secret killings containing details like how many persons were killed, how many cases were registered and how many chargesheets were filed by the police in these cases.
