Guwahati, Oct. 29: City girl Kakoli Lahkar overcame tough resistance from Murchana Gohain of Sivasagar to win the junior girls’ singles title of the 55th Inter-District Stag State Table Tennis Championship today.
Kakoli defeated Murchana 3-2 in the final played at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here.
Kakoli added another feather to her cap when she defeated Sanjana Sarma of Sivasagar 4-3 to win the youth girls’ title.
However, she lost to teammate Sanjukta Gogoi 0-4 in the women’s final.
In the men’s final, Pankaj Pritam Chutia of Sivasagar clinched the men’s title, defeating Saidul Ahmed of Dibrugarh 4-0.
In the other finals played today, Samhita Kaushik of Guwahati beat Jaspreet Kaur of Nagaon 3-2 in the cadet girls’ singles event, while Ved Prakash of Duliajan outplayed Kalyan Singh of the same town 3-2 in the cadet boys’ category.
In the sub-junior girls’ singles final, Mahasweta Batshalya of Guwahati got the better of teammate Preemi Bora 3-0, while Navajyoti Dowerah outplayed Pranjit Barua, both from Guwahati, 3-2, in the boys’ sub-junior singles.
In the junior boys’ singles final event, Saidul Alam Ahmed of Dibrugarh defeated Elsayeed Mustafa Hussain of Guwahati 4-2. Chinmoy Sharma of Guwahati had a comprehensive victory over Samarjit Bhatta of Jorhat in the youth boys’ singles final.
The five-day tournament was officiated by Niten Changkakoty (chief referee) and referees Gobinda Updhyay, Subrajit Sinha, Jyotirmoy Khankkar, Ratnadeep Chakraborty, Ajanta Ahmed and Balwant Singh.
Climbers named
The Indian Mountaineering Foundation has nominated two international climbers from Manipur, Khumanthem Dasini Devi and Pheiroijam Santirani Devi, to represent India in the Asian Indoor Games under way in China till Saturday. The Cycling Federation of India has selected two Manipur cyclists, N. Chaoba Devi and H. Tombisana Devi, to participate in the three-day Track Asia Cup 2007 to be held at Malaysia from November 23.
