Agartala, Aug. 21: The Tripura government has won the first prize for “best implementation” of the Centre’s community service centre (CSC) project that was launched in 2008.

The resident commissioner of Tripura Bhawan in New Delhi, R.K. Vaish, will receive a citation at a special programme in Tripura Bhawan on August 29.

A source in the state information technology department said the project was launched by the Union IT ministry in late 2008 to provide IT-related services and e-governance to rural people.

“Tripura was slated to set up 145 CSCs and we fulfilled the quota in time. They are still operational and this is the reason why we have been selected for the prize,” he added.

No other state or Union Territory in the country has achieved full implementation of its target, the source said, adding, “Some states have reached 75 per cent of their target and some even less, mainly because of connectivity and other problems.”

The Centre had targeted setting up of 1 lakh centres all over the country and had launched the project as part of its e-governance project.

Apart from the CSCs, the state government has made considerable progress in computerising administrative services.
