Guwahati: The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd (Trifed) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Assam Plain Tribes Development Corporation on Thursday for minimum support price scheme for nine minor forest products.
It is through Assam Plain Tribes Development Corporation that the nine products - tamarind, honey, sal seed, sal leaves, neem seeds, hillbroom, bael (dried and without crust), lac (rangini and kusumi) and karanj seed - could be brought under seven per cent subsidy.
Trifed managing director Pravir Krishna said they will also sign an MoU with Pragjyoti centre, Bodoland Regional Apex Weavers and Artisans Cooperation Federation Ltd (Brawfed) and Assam Apex Weavers and Artisans Cooperation Federation Ltd (Artfed) for display and sale of tribal products.
He said the scheme seeks to institutionalise various medium and long-term aspects of sustainable collection, value addition, market infrastructure development, knowledge base expansion of minor forest products and market intelligence development.
The scheme also envisages training for indigenous gatherers on harvesting and value addition activities, including facilitation for marketing of the produces so that the natural resources can be optimally utilised in a sustainable manner.
Krishna said 1,000 procurement-cum-value addition centres would be set up in the Northeast, of which three will be in Guwahati. Trifed has also signed MoUs with Amazon, Snapdeal, Flipkart and PayTM to sell the products internationally.
