Kokrajhar, April 29: A five-member delegation of the All Assam Tribal Sangha and All Assam Tribal Youth League today met chief minister Tarun Gogoi on irregularities in appointments in government departments.

The members of the groups, who met Gogoi today in Guwahati, submitted a memorandum to the chief minister on deprivation of SC and ST eligible incumbents for promotion to the posts of executive engineer in PWD and anomalies in appointment of subject teachers by the Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam.

The group members demanded a review on the selection of candidates for promotion so that the vacancies of SCs and STs are filled up by a special drive based on the Section 5A (viii) of the SCs and STs (Reservation of Vacancies in Services and Posts) (Amendment) Act 1012.

The indigenous bodies sought a detailed inquiry into the anomalies in selection of HS subject teachers and make the state education department duty-bound to follow the Reservation Policy.

The groups stated that the PWD had promoted 14 general category assistant executive engineers to the post of executive engineer on April 25 violating the Assam SCs and STs (Reservation of Vacancies in Services and Posts) (Amendment) Act 2012.

“The PWD has de-reserved 14 executive engineer posts reserved for SC and ST candidates exclusively,” the general secretary of All Assam Tribal Sangha, Aditya Kaklary, said.

The Director of Secondary Education, Assam, has also de-reserved all the 23 posts for subject teachers meant for SC and ST candidates violating the same act, he added.

Gogoi has assured to conduct a probe into the matter and sent the memorandum to the chief secretary of Assam.
