Jorhat, Dec. 28: Jorhat traffic police have chalked out alternate routes for heavy vehicles to ply on to ensure that traffic runs smoothly in view of the construction of a new bridge over the Bhogdoi on the Assam Trunk Road towards the east.

The new directions will come into effect from tomorrow.

Two temporary wooden bridges constructed alongside the old bridge will only allow two-wheelers, light vehicles and pedestrians to ply.

From 11am to 2pm, trucks, mini trucks and pick-up vans coming from the western bypass onto the AT Road will have to go along the Garali, and take the turning at Lahoty petrol pump towards the Jorhat Engineering College Road, pass through Bamun Gaon and then meet up on AT Road.

However, no vehicle will be allowed to enter this road from AT Road in the daytime.

After 8pm, heavy vehicles will be allowed to come in and move along KB Road after taking the turn at Lahoty Tiniali, take another turn at Geetarthi Tiniali and then onto the Baruah Chariali to reach the AT Road.

These vehicles will then move onto the bypass on the west from the Ajanta cinema hall side. Trucks coming from Lahoty to the truck stand will ply as usual.

Buses going to Neemati will have to go from the old ASTC bus stand to the Ajanta cinema hall bypass and then move towards Neemati along the bypass route and back.

City ride buses plying under ASTC will reach the old ASTC bus stand after moving along the Malow Ali route and go out by the same route.

All types of buses and wingers will have to move along the bypass and enter the town by the Ajanta cinema hall bypass to the ISBT and JDA bus stand.

Tata Magic passenger vehicles and three-wheelers will ply as usual.
