Guwahati, Oct. 10: The second day of the Phani Sharma India Cup at U Tirot Singh Stadium in Shillong, like the first, witnessed several upsets.

Ninth seed Mamta Prabhu of Maharashtra caused a huge upset toppling top seed Neha Agarwal of Delhi 3-2 in a women’s Group-A league match.

The women’s table also saw fifth seed Divya Deshpande of Maharashtra fall to in-form second seed K. Shamini of Delhi 3-0.

After losing to unseeded Sanjana Sarma of Assam on the first day yesterday, Divya today appeared a totally different paddler with complete focus on her game.

Sanjana, on the other hand, made it to the quarterfinals finishing third in the group league.

Seventh seed Sanil Shetty, however, missed a berth in the men’s quarterfinals, losing in both his outings today. Sanil lost to 10th seed Devesh Karia 2-3 and sixth seed A. Amal Raj 1-3.

Eighth seed Assam lad Anal Kashyap booked a quarterfinal slot with an impressive win over fourth seed Anirban Nandi, but went down to Amal Raj 0-4 in the round of eight.

In the other quarterfinals, top seed A. Sharath Kamal will meet Shivaji Dutta, Anirban Nandi will clash with Devesh Karia and Subhajit Saha will play Jubin Kumar.
