Aizawl: The Mizoram Tipper Association (MTA), an umbrella body of all tipper truck drivers and owners in the state, on Monday served an ultimatum to all "outsider trucks" manned by non-indigenous people to stop running their vehicles and put a halt to transportation of local goods within the state from July.

The association has also threatened to stage protests and stop running of "outsider trucks" if they continue to enter Mizoram after June 30.

Speaking to reporters at a news conference here on Monday, MTA president C. Lalzarmawia said many local truck owners and drivers have become jobless owing to an increase in number of trucks from outside.

He said local people are facing impending assimilation from outside as the number of trucks owned by the non-indigenous people is increasing in the state.

According to Lalzarmawia, nearly 50 commercial vehicles (trucks) owned by non-indigenous people who are outsiders, have been registered in Mizoram in violation of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, and asked the Mizoram government how these vehicles could register in the state.

He added that according to the rules, owners of commercial vehicle are not allowed to register outside their domicile state or without valid documents. According to him, the non-tribal truck owners have violated the Eastern Bengal Frontier Regulation, 1873, and worked beyond the subjects permitted by inner-line permit (ILP).

Lalzarmawia also said about 100 trucks from outside Mizoram are currently operating in the state and constitute almost 90 per cent trucks ferrying local goods and materials in the state. He alleged that the non-indigenous people are fixing separate rates of construction materials .
