Guwahati, Aug. 18: Woman Grandmaster Bhagyashree Thipsay of Maharashtra and 70 other leading players will be seen in action in the 37th National Women’s Challengers Chess Championship, to be hosted by the All Assam Chess Association at Shilpgram here from August 20 to 28.

Players from 18 state units, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Maharashtra, Kerala, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Manipur, Nagaland, Goa, Bihar, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Delhi and Orissa, are participating in the tournament. World under-9 champion Ch. Divyasri of Andhra Pradesh, Asian youth (under-18) champion Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa, Asian youth (under-10) silver medallist Savant Riya of Goa and national under-17 champion Saranya J. have also confirmed participation.

U-16 football

The 34th Sati Mohan Dev Trophy Inter-District Sub-Junior (U-16) Football Championship begins at Kokrajhar DSA stadium tomorrow with the inaugural match between host Kokrajhar and Bongaigaon, says our Kokrajhar correspondent.

Forty sports districts from the state will participate in the tournament.

The final will be played on September 6.
