Imphal, Sept. 24: Thinungei Phubala High School thrashed Afros A. HS School 5-1 to win the first Coca Cola School Tournament trophy on artificial turf at Khuman Lampak sports complex here today.

For Thinungei Phubala, H. Mahesh scored two goals, while teammates Ng. Bineshwar, N. Nepolian and N. Mahechand scored a goal each, while Poreiton scored the lone goal for Afros.

Imphal West first division: YWC Malom beat CHIKL Chajing by a solitary goal in the 21st L. Sangita Devi Memorial First Division Football League on the artificial turf. L. Monish scored the winning goal in the 14th minute. In another match, KKYDA Kha Jiri got the better of Thangmeiband Athletic Union by the same margin. Ng. Ngouba delivered the winning goal in the 12th minute.

Wushu praise

M. Birmani Singh, former technical director of Wushu Association of India, has lauded Yumnam Sanathoi Devi for winning a bronze in the women’s sanda 52kg event at the Incheon Asian Games today.

Sanathoi Devi lost out to Zhang Luan of China in the semi-final, settling for the bronze.

Birmani Singh said he was quite happy with Devi’s performance given the fact that she had no foreign coach. He said countries like Nepal, Myanmar and Sri Lanka have foreign coaches to train their players.

Birmani Singh, who is also general secretary of Wushu Association of Manipur, said wushu was Manipur’s pride.

Four Manipur players were in the Indian wushu team — Y. Sapana Devi, M. Bimoljit, W. Sandhyarani Devi and Y. Sanathoi Devi.

Volleyball: NYVA Naorem beat PBM Wangjing by 3-2 sets to move into the final of the 13th Mini State-Level Volleyball Tournament at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium today.

In another match, SUWC Irengbam outplayed TGH Heigrujam 3-0 winning 25-16, 25-20 and 25-13 to sail into the final, which will be played tomorrow evening.
