Tezpur, Aug. 1: Tezpur has got its first army skill training centre within the Solmara Army Garrison here.

The zonal president of Army Wives Welfare Association at 4 Corps, Anupama Bedi, today inaugurated the centre as part of an MoU signed between the Gajraj Corps and its training partner, Orion Edutech Pvt Ltd, affiliated to the National Skill Development Corporation.

Set up as a partnership between the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship and ministry of defence, the centre will provide skill training to both serving and ex-servicemen's wives and wards.

It will offer courses for assistant beauty therapist and sewing machine operator.

Bedi lauded the efforts of team of officers, junior commissioned officers and jawans and the training partner for setting up this centre.

"The venture will be able to help the army wives and wards in career enhancement while contributing to the government's Skill India campaign," she said.

The trainees will be eligible for being sponsored under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY).

On successful completion of the course, the trainees will get NSDC certificate, while the training partner will take steps to provide them with suitable placements or guide them to become entrepreneurs.
