Dhubri, Jan. 28: Teachers serving in high and higher secondary schools should change their attitude and devote their time to students during school hours rather than waste their time in other business, Dhubri district inspector of schools, Nagen Chandra Boro, said today.
Boro was addressing a function organised by the Dhubri district academic council of Sishu Pathsala Higher Secondary School to felicitate Saradindu Banerjee who secured the second position in the all-Assam essay competition on Sikhak Howar Ananda Aru Bedana.
Banerjee, a renowned poet, dramatist and writer, said his endeavour during the competition was to pen down the trials of a teacher’s life.
“The election of students’ unions has already spoilt the academic environment in West Bengal. But in Assam such a situation has not come yet,” Banerjee said.
The competition was conducted by the State Academic Council.
Boro, who is also the president of the academic council, spoke of the pain and pleasure of being a teacher. He said teachers were now better placed and being paid like central government employees but it was unfortunate that they were found to be negligent towards their responsibilities.
“I have information that classes in many schools are not being taken on the pretext of non-availability of books. But after January 31, I will be the last man to listen to all this and will take action against the teachers and principals of the schools,” he warned.
Others who spoke on the occasion were the principal of Sishu Pathsala Higher Secondary School, Pijus Kanti Dey, and the secretary of DDAC, Moyajjem Hussain Talukdar.
